SOGOG HOLDS 2024 ANNUAL GENERAL AND SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE


The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Ghana (SOGOG) held its 2024 Annual General and Scientific Conference in Koforidua from October 31st 2024 to November 1st 2024. The Theme for the Annual General Conference was: “Promoting adolescent sexual and reproductive health & rights in the context of rising HIV infection in Ghana – a call to action”

The conference brought together some two hundred Obstetrics and Gynaecology experts, clinicians, researchers, public health experts, media, policymakers, and academics from all over Ghana and beyond for a very stimulating interaction with the view to engaging in scientific evidence-based knowledge and experience sharing, aimed at influencing national adolescent sexual & reproductive health interventions in Ghana.

The three-day meeting provided an opportunity for practitioners, policy makers, stakeholders and partners in adolescent sexual & reproductive health and rights to brainstorm on Ghana’s rising adolescent and youth HIV infection rate with the view to propose remedial evidence-based interventions to address the gaps contributing to the currently emerging worrying trends.

In attendance were: the Second Lady, Technical Advisor for the Ministry of Health, Minister for Gender Children and Social Protection, Country Representative of the World Health Organization, Parliamentary Select Committee on Health; Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Director of Family Health Division of Ghana Health Service, Deans of the Schools of Public Health; Chief Executives and Heads of Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from teaching hospitals in Ghana, President of Nurses and Midwives Council and other major stakeholders and policy makers. During the conference, the major stakeholders stressed the need to address the rising rates of HIV among adolescents in the country.
