SOGOG under-takes a wide-range of activities aimed primarily at safeguarding and promoting the health and wellbeing of women in Ghana continually.
Our key activities include:
ADVOCACY Promotion Reproductive Healthcare in GhanaDevelopment of Reproductive and Women’s Health Dissemination of Women’s Health information in GhanaDevelopment of Protocols and guidelines for clinical careContribution to major polices affecting women’s in Ghana
OUTREACHES SOGOG through our members, provided specialized gynaecological and obstetric care to rural and deprived areas in Ghana We undertake quarterly Vesico-Vaginal Fistula repair surgical outreaches nationwide including Northern and Upper Regions, Mankessim, Kete – Krachi, Nkwanta, etc.
PATNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS SOGOG partners / collaborate with other Professional Bodies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Civic Service Organisations, Institutions, Individuals, etc in promoting and delivering healthcare for women in keeping with our mission.
Notable among current on-going collaborations is that with the MAMAYE in implementing the “Evidence for Action” (E4A) Project. This project entails the provision of Supportive Supervision programme to Poly Clinics, District and selected private and Mission Hospitals. The SOGOG specialists provide supportive supervision for maternal and new-borne care (Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care – EMONC).
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) PROGRAMMES SOGOG holds regular continuous professional development activities for members, other practitioners to update their knowledge and skills in obstetrics and gynaecology. The Medical and Dental Council of Ghana accredit these programmes annually.
REGIONAL EVENTS Our Regional Representatives carry out appropriate advocacy on key maternal and child health issues that arise, making the necessary inputs in keeping with SOGOG’s vision and mission.SOGOG undertakes regional training Reproductive Health (RH) and EMONCSOGOG Members provide professional support for other Medical Officers, Midwives and other lower grade clinicians in the regions.Regional Reps and members provide regular regional CPDs and Clinical Update programmes for clinicians in OBGYN as well as midwives nation-wide.
ANNUAL EVENTS
ANNUAL GENERAL & SCIENTIFIC MEETING (AGSM)SOGOG holds yearly AGSM where members gather to, among other things:
- Interact with themselves, policy makers, partner agencies
- Share and discuss scientific evidence relevant for clinical work
- Review the previous year’s activities
- Agree on major policy and operational directions for the ensuing year in line with our assessment of the most pressing themes in maternal healthcare in Ghana.
